A - Z

AIR-CONDITIONING
Every room is individually air-conditioned so you can control the room temperature according to your preference. Simply increase or decrease the temperature by adjusting the thermostat to the desired setting.
Please note that air-conditioning in some bedrooms is shut off when terrace doors are open, and after any power cut (even for a few seconds) you might have to restart the air-conditioning manually.

AIRLINE RESERVATIONS & RECONFIRMATION
Just call the Balivillas.com Service Center at 703-060 and our staff will be pleased to reserve or reconfirm your onward flight.

AIRPLANE CHARTER & TOURS
You can charter a helicopter for tours throughout the island or to visit Lombok or the Gili islands. Seeing Bali's beaches and rice terraces, the famous Besakih temple on the slopes of holy Mount Agung, Lake Batur and it's active volcano, Ubud, Legian, Kuta, Nusa Dua, and the temples of Tanah Lot and Uluwatu from an airplane is a really special experience. Please contact our Service Center for details and bookings at 703-060.

BALI IMPIAN ESTATE ACTIVITIES
All Balivillas.com guests are invited to regular Get-Together Cocktail Parties at the Balivillas.com Center to meet the key staff and management of Balivillas.com.
Guests staying at the Bali Impian Estate (at "Villa Bali Impian" and the two "Bali Impian Suites") can also select movies they want to watch from our DVD library which is located in the Service Center. Bali Impian Estate guests can also use at certain times the billiards table at the Balivillas.com Center if they give advance notice. Just contact the Service Center staff at 703-060.

BABY COTS & HIGH CHAIRS
Baby cots and high chairs are available on request. Please call 703-060.

BABY SITTERS
Indonesians adore kids, and one of your house staff will always be happy to take care of them. If you wish to explore Bali's nightlife and need a baby sitter for the evening, please contact our Service Center at 703-060.

BEACHES IN SOUTH BALI
Bali offers definitely much more than beaches, but some of them are quite enjoyable. Beaches around Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa are rather shallow, without major waves and well suited for water sports such as wind surfing, sea kayakking, and swimming. Jimbaran Beach is not crowded, good for swimming and wind surfing, and the beach restaurants are great to watch Bali's sunsets. The sand at Kuta Beach seems to get darker every year, and the crowds of tourists, touts, and beach vendors are offending many visitors. Canggu Beach and beaches further west are better for surfing than for swimming. Sanur Beach has lost much of its sand over the years, and it was never good for swimming in the sea. But then there are Bali's "secret" beaches such as Dreamland - unspoilt, with white sand, clear water, great waves for surfing, simple restaurants, and hardly any tourists. Just ask our Service Center.

BEST BUYS
Cheap souvenirs as well as beach wear, other clothing, shoes and leather bags, CDs, DVDs, handicrafts, etc. can be found in numerous shops at Kuta Square, the Kartika Discovery Mall, the Matahari Galleria and in Bali's department stores (Matahari at Kuta Square is probably the best). Also an excellent buy is semi-antique and modern furniture. If you buy enough to fill a container, the shipping cost is very reasonable and you'll enjoy great savings. You find many furniture shops in the Seminyak - Kerobokan area.
Real bargains are custom-tailored leather jackets and coats, and when you select the right tailor you can expect top quality. We can arrange inspection of samples and - if you decide to order - subsequent fittings in your villa. Let our Service Center staff know if you are interested. Call 703-060.

BOAT CHARTERS & TOURS
You can charter a number of sailing boats and deep-sea fishing vessels for day tours or longer excursions. Or join one of the scheduled day tours to swim and snorkel in nearby Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida with lunch included. Guests spend the day either at one of the cruise companies' beach clubs (with restaurant, swimming pool, and water sports equipment) or on a floating pontoon, and you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, take Banana Boat rides, or view the underwater world from a glass-bottom boat or semi-submersible vessel. There are also daily Sunset Dinner Cruises from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm which include a buffet and entertainment. Please contact your Butler or our Service Center at 703-060.

BOOKING EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
Please book all excursions and/or activities such as airplane and boat charters, cruises, diving, golf, horseback riding, spa treatments, white water rafting, etc. always through our Service Center and not directly with the tour company or through your driver or guide.
Balivillas.com is monitoring the performance of all local operators, but we can guarantee the quality of services or help you in case of complaints only if the reservation was made through our office (tel. 703-060).

BOSE WAVE RADIO / CD PLAYER & ALARM CLOCK
(Only for guests staying at the Bali Impian Estate)
In your bedroom is a BOSE Wave Radio/CD Player for your enjoyment (you have received one souvenir audio CD together with your welcome pack, and you'll find a wide range of CDs in Bali's music shops). Please note that the built-in alarm clock has to be reset after every power failure.

BREAKFAST & OTHER MEALS
Provisions for your first breakfast are placed in your refrigerator before you arrive. These include bread, butter, milk, coffee, tea, eggs, etc, and you'll find also a choice of fresh fruit, drinking water, soft drinks and beer.
Please tell your cook what you wish to be served for subsequent breakfasts, and please order also your other meals well in advance to give her/him time to go shopping (see SHOPPING FOR GROCERIES below). The book THE FOOD OF BALI provided in each villa will help to select local dishes you might enjoy.

CAR RENTAL
An air-conditioned car (large enough for all guests in your party) with a reliable driver is included in all villa rentals. However, if you need one or more extra cars with or without driver, please call our Service Center at 703-060.

CHANGING MONEY
Money changers offer better rates than banks but be careful as some of them have earned a reputation as outstanding con artists. Therefore, only use licensed money changers operating from dedicated premises and avoid those with a small counter insider another shop.
Always check the exchange rate and calculate yourself how many Rupiah you should receive (don't trust the money changer's calculator as it might be fixed), count the money received carefully, and keep your hands on it once you have convinced yourself the amount is correct. Don't accept 50,000 Rupiah bank notes or smaller denominations - as 100,000 Rupiah notes are easier to count for the buyer and seller, reliable money changers will not use anything else.
Please note: most money changers and all banks will not accept old, damaged or dirty bank notes. Therefore, bring only notes printed recently and without any marks or damages.

DIVING & SNORKELING
A number of PADI certified companies offer diving tours (no spear fishing in Bali) with experienced multi-lingual guides and state-of-the art equipment from one day to several days. The best diving sites (some with ship wrecks) are along Bali's East cost near Amed and Tulamben and in the northwest around Menjangan island near Gilimanuk (near the ferry to Java). Call us at 703-060 and we'll book you with the dive operator that speaks your language (English, German, French, Japanese, etc).

DOCTORS & HOSPITALS
In case you need a doctor or medical treatment in a hospital, please contact the Balivillas.com Service Center at 703-060 as soon as possible and we'll make all arrangements. See also the list of the most important Emergency Telephone Numbers on the top of this page.

DRINKING WATER
Guests are advised not to drink the tap water but to drink only the purified water provided free of charge.

DRIVERS & YOUR FREE CAR

Your driver and air-conditioned car will be available for up to 10 hours per day consecutively (even gasoline is included in your rental fee). He will drive you wherever you want to go, and you can also send him to do errands for you such as picking up purchases from shops etc. However, please note that your driver is just that; although he will now Bali well he is NOT a professional tour guide.

Don't feel embarrassed to let your driver wait longer than originally planned while you enjoy your dinner or whatever you're doing - waiting is the main part of any driver's job. Another duty of his is watching the car and your belongings. Therefore, never invite your driver to join you for a meal or to accompany you to a pub or bar. If you require your driver to work over-time i.e. more than 10 hours on one day you should pay extra RP.25,000 per hour.

If your driver should try make you pay for gasoline, to convince you to visit certain shops, restaurants or spas, he pretends not to be able to find the establishment you wish to visit, or he suggests you book spa treatments or any activities such as rafting, horseback riding or boat tours, etc. through him, please inform your Butler, Mrs. Endris or Mr. Nyoman at our Service Center (tel. 703-060)

ELECTRIC ADAPTOR PLUGS
Adaptors for various electrical plugs are available. Please ask one of your staff.

ELECTRIC POWER FAILURES
Occasionally there are power failures in Bali which can last from a few seconds to several hours. During this time you cannot use any electrical appliances, and in some villas you won't have any water if they depend on a water pump.
However, guests staying at the Bali Impian Estate have no problems as the Estate has its own power generator which is started by the security staff whenever required. Therefore, after a few moments of darkness full power will be restored and light, TV, refrigeration, water heaters, water pumps and air-conditioning will be working again (however, you may have to restart your room air-conditioner manually).

ELECTRIC CURRENT
The electric current in Indonesia is officially 220 volts (which means in Bali something between 170 and 240 volts), 50 cycles.

EXCURSIONS, ACTIVITIES, ETC
Please tell your Butler or the Balivillas.com office staff what you are interested in. In addition to the activities listed here we can also arrange nature tours, lake and sea kayakking, jungle trekking, mountain cycling, para-gliding, bungee jumping, paint ball war games, cultural performances in your villa, cooking lessons, painting, dance, music, yoga, and meditation classes, etc. Just dial 703-060.

GAME FISHING
A number of companies offer fishing boats with guides for charter. The catch includes Tuna, Wahoo, Mai-Mai, Mackerel, or Marlin ndash; and Snapper, Cod and Coral Trout to be caught reef fishing should you so desire. The rate is US$500 per day (US$250 half-day) for a modern 30-foot catamaran with satellite navigation, top-of-the range fish finder and sonar as well as Brownie diving equipment, and US$660 per day for a state-of-the-art BLACK WATCH game fishing vessel with experienced crew, full insurance, and all electronics and safety gear. For bookings call 703-060.

GOLF
The "Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club" near Bedugul in the mountains is Bali's oldest and probably most attractive golf course. There is also a 18-hole course at the "Bali Golf & Country Club" in Nusa Dua near the Bali Hilton, a 9-hole course at the Grand Bali Beach Hotel in Sanur, and the challenging "Nirwana Bali Golf Club" with a 18-hole course near Tanah Lot. Call 703-060 to book your tee-off time.

GUIDED TOURS
Your driver knows Bali well, and if you know what you want to see and where you want to go, he will bring you there and assist you in any way he can. But he is not a guide, and in some cases you may wish to be accompanied by a trained tour guide who speaks your language. A guide might be useful to visit some or all of Bali's museums or to find the few good art galleries, to attend local ceremonies or temple festivals, or to watch traditional drama or dance performances. Just give our Service Center a call at 703-060 and we'll arrange it.

HAIR DRYERS
A hair dryer is located (usually in one of the drawers under the sink) in your bathroom.

HORSEBACK RIDING
A different way to see Bali! Either you book an individual excursion through the rice fields or along Bali's beaches or you can join one of the daily group tours which usually last two or three hours. Early booking is recommended, please call 703-060.

HOT WATER
It can take a minute or so until the hot water gets from the water heater to your sink, shower, or bath tub. Please relax, you're in Bali.

INCOMING TELEPHONE CALLS
If you answer the telephone and the caller asks to speak with one of the villa staff, please do not call him/her to the phone (except when the call is from the Balivillas.com office). Domestic staff are not allowed to receive private telephone calls on the villa telephone when guests are staying at the villa!

INTERNET ACCESS
For Internet access using your modem, please dial 080-989-999 to access Telkomnet. Your "User Name" is "telkomnet@instan" and your password is "telkom". The charge is Rp. 165 per minute or about US$1 per hour.
For guests staying at the Bali Impian Estate and Spa Villa Barong: If your laptop has an Ethernet card, you can plug directly into our local network for Internet access via our dedicated Broadband Internet connection. You'll find an Ethernet socket next to each telephone socket in all bedrooms and in the living area. Please contact Mr. Michael at our Service Center if your have problems with your computer settings or need a special cable.

LAUNDRY & DRY CLEANING
Please give your dirty laundry to your maid or put it in the laundry basket in your bathroom. Washing and pressing done in-house takes two days and is free. Dry cleaning is not done in-house. It takes two to three days and is charged at cost. We recommend not to send any delicate or valuable items for laundry or dry cleaning in Bali, and Balivillas.com does not accept any liability for damages.

MASSAGE & BEAUTY TREATMENTS
Guests staying at any of our villas on the "Bukit", the hill on the Nusa Dua Peninsula south of the airport, are entitled to one free one-hour massage for each adult in their villa, and other treatments such as cream bath, flower bath, manicure, pedicure, etc. are charged at 50% of regular rates i.e. 160,000 Rupiah per hour (please do NOT tip the Balivillas.com spa therapists). For reservations please contact our Service Center (tel. 703-060).
Guests staying in other areas of Bali, please contact our Service Center for any kind of massage or beauty treatments. Massages, facials, manicure & pedicure, haircuts, etc. can be arranged in all villas.

PROBLEMS / EMERGENCIES
If you have any kind of problem your villa staff cannot solve or a complaint, please don't hesitate to call Miss Endris, our General Manager in Bali, or Mr. Nyoman, our Villa Manager, at our Service Center at 703-060 during office hours.
At other times, on Sundays and during holidays, please call the Balivillas.com Manager on Duty at 08155-700-691.

SAFE DEPOSIT BOX
An electronic safe box is located in the wardrobe in every master bedroom. All valuables should be placed in the safe. Balivillas.com is not liable for any losses of money, jewellery and other valuables. Please refer to the operating instructions on the safe box, and leave the safe open when you depart.

SHOPPING FOR GROCERIES, etc.
If you give your cook at the beginning of your stay the equivalent of US$50 to US$150 (depending on the number of people in your party) our staff will do the shopping for all ingredients required to prepare the meals you ordered. Therefore, please place your meal orders with the cook as early as you can, and tell the staff if you wish them to buy any special items for you. Expect to pay for three meals per day about US$12 to US$30 per person - depending on your preferences. This does not include wine and other alcoholic drinks which are relatively expensive in Bali.
Purchases made by your villa staff will be charged at cost, and you will be presented with a list of items bought and their prices. Hand over additional funds only when you see that there is not enough money left from your initial payment for new purchases. If you feel prices are too high, or you experience communication problems, please ask the Service Center staff to help.
If you want to go shopping yourself, Balivillas.com provides a list of the best supermarkets for foreigners and specialty shops offering delicacies such as fresh Australian oysters, caviar, imported ham, salami, cheeses as well as bakery items, a choice of imported wines and spirits, and even Cuban cigars.

SPA TREATMENTS
Bali has become famous for its exotic Spas, and we know the best of them. However, these are often booked well in advance and it's not easy to get an appointment. Let us help you – call our Service Center at 703-030.

SPECIAL EVENTS / ARRANGEMENTS
Birthday, anniversary, or any other event which calls for something special? We can arrange a 4- or 6-course Western Gourmet Dinner, planned and prepared by an expert foreign Chef. Either by candlelight in your villa or next to the swimming pool, accompanied by a Balinese orchestra and followed by a traditional dance performance. You'll never forget this evening! Tell your Butler or call us at 703-060.

STAFF WORKING HOURS
Your villa staff is on duty from early morning until you have finished your dinner. Please ask them for anything you require. (For guests at the Bali Impian Suites: to contact the staff if you don't see them, please call 708-162).

TELEVISION
All television sets and their "Indovision" satellite decoders are controlled with two separate hand-held remote controls. You need the TV controller to switch the set on and off, and to change the volume. The controller for the decoder is used to choose the channel you wish to watch.
You can receive a number of movie channels (HBO, Cinemax, STAR Movies, Hallmark, AXN, Cartoon Network, etc), news and sports channels (CNNfn, CNNI, BBC World, Q Channel, STAR Sports, etc), as well as Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, MTV, I Musik, and various other Indonesian and international channels.
If you still feel bored, please look at our DVD Disk library in the office which contains many popular movies.

TIPPING
Depending on how satisfied you are with the service provided, you should tip your villa staff about US$1 to US$2 per person per day - this seems little but much more would be too much.
Please hand over the total amount on your departure to one of the staff members in the presence of several others. If you wish to exclude one of the staff members from participating in the tip, please identify him/her and state clearly the reason.

VISITORS & OVERNIGHT GUESTS
You are free to entertain as many visitors at your villa as you wish. However, for larger groups it might be necessary to rent additional glasses, plates and cutlery at a nominal fee. Just tell your Butler and/or the cook how many guests you'll have for each meal.
If you wish to invite one or several of your guests to stay for the night, this is possible if it does not exceed the maximum capacity of your villa (two guests per bedroom). However, please give the passports or ID cards to our Security staff to register your guests with the police. Without valid passport or ID card we cannot allow strangers to stay at any of our villas.

WARNING !
The use (or just ownership) of narcotic and hallucinogenic drugs is illegal in Indonesia and punishable by death. Drugs offered on the street are of questionable origin and content, and often mixed with toxic substances such as strychnine and soap powder. Please note that many street vendors cooperate with the police. If you buy from them you will be arrested soon afterwards, and you will be released only after paying US$60,000 to US$100,000 - if at all. Therefore, don't even think about it!

WATER SPORTS
Swimming, snorkeling, banana boat rides, water ski, para-sailing, etc. are offered at the Beluga Marina and other places in Tanjung Benoa. The best surfing spots are near Uluwatu (only for experts in top physical condition who are comfortable surfing over coral reefs on large, powerful waves that break in shallow water) and along Bali's West coast North of Canggu; the best time is during the dry season from June to September. For some beautiful "secret" beaches ask our Service Center staff.

WELCOME PACK
On arrival in your villa, a welcome pack containing a recent guide book and an audio CD will be waiting for you, both to be used during your stay and afterwards to be taken home as souvenirs.
There will be also a print-out of the most recent information on What to Do, Restaurants, Night Life, etc. from our Baliguide.com web site and information on shopping. We hope you'll also enjoy the chilled bottle of sparkling wine served as a welcome drink.

WHITE WATER RAFTING
This is one of the most popular activities in Bali, and many visitors regard it as one of their more exciting experiences. Most tours (grade 2 to grade 4 rapids) are on the Ayun river (starting North-West of Ubud) or on the Unda River North of Klungkung, and you pass waterfalls and volcanic cliffs, deep-sided gorges, tranquil rice terraces and remote villages. From morning to afternoon, lunch included. Call 703-060 for reservations.
