Nestled in the village of Cemagi, between a black sand beach and boundless rice fields, Tirtha Bayu Estate has been designed to enhance the union of these forces into a paradise unto itself. Tirtha Bayu Estate takes its name from the amalgamation of the sacred waters of the Indian Ocean and the life-giving winds of Bali’s highlands. It is a meeting point, a realm of reflection, sensation and energy. Tirtha in ancient Sanskrit means Sacred Water. Bayu traditionally means ‘Wind that gave life,’ as this was Bayu’s gift to the creation of the world, according to Hindu lore.Tirtha Bayu Estate comprises two magnificent beachfront villas. Six-bedroom Villa I balances contemporary design and modern amenities with traditional artefacts and features. On the other hand, the five-bedroom property, Villa II, is more traditional and offers a fascinating insight into local architecture. Both villas have a 180-degree unimpeded view of the deep blue Indian Ocean under the azure sky, enjoyed over the 150m breadth of the estate. The villas can be booked separately or together for bigger families or groups and make for a breathtaking event venue too.
Tirtha Bayu Estate is located right above a picturesque beach in the serene Seseh-Tanah Lot region of south-west Bali. The area is blissfully semi-rural, with little development apart from a scattering of luxury villas, making it a great opportunity to glimpse traditional Balinese life. The black sand beach can be explored at low tide, but dangerous rips and submerged rocks make it unsuitable for swimming. A clifftop path just outside the villa leads to a small sea temple that clings to the craggy cliffs and is visible from the estate. Following the path around the headland, you will come to Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus, a larger temple perched on a headland which makes an atmospheric spot for sunset (and a peaceful yet equally picturesque alternative to Tanah Lot). Small warungs with beanbags and rustic furnishing serve up cold beer, coconuts and local food.
While Tirtha Bayu may feel like a world away from everything, it’s merely nine kilometres from Echo Beach and all the exciting delights of Canggu.
